CURRENT RESIDENT BIOS (UNDER CONSTRUCTION)

Todd Antenucci , DO

EDUCATION:
New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, Old Westbury, NY

AREAS OF INTEREST: Community-based medicine, Patient Education, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

ABOUT RESIDENCY: I wanted a program where I could improve my skills as a physician while simultaneously learning Spanish.  Columbia offered this and further impressed me with EMR, lectures on cutting edge research, and biopsychosocial education.  The longitudinal incorporation of Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) completes this well rounded curriculum.  Most important is that I get to experience all this with a great group of colleagues who enjoy learning as much as they enjoy playing in NYC.

ABOUT RESIDENCY: This is a great program!  In my interviews, Columbia was the only one that provided such a high level of individual attention, emotional support, quality education, quality residents, community involvement, and language training as we get here.  If I had to choose all over again, I'd come here in an instant!

ABOUT RESIDENCY:  "I'm really looking forward to being trained at a program that takes care of the urban underserved. Prior to medical school,  I worked as a health educator in an inner city, doing home visits, educating in exam rooms, classrooms and serving the community. Columbia's program emphasizes the role of a physician as a member of the community it serves through some of the same methods I have already had experience with. I love that the clinic and physicians are located in the same area where their patients live, and are actively involved in learning about how their patients live and barriers they face. I'm also really excited to be at a program that is filled with passionate, motivating people who really do believe in their patients and that they can make a difference. It also doesn't hurt that the program is in one of the best cities in the country, filled with the best food, music and activities galore... and that my fellow interns are hilarious, sweet, and fun and have already helped me start my year off on a great foot!"

ABOUT RESIDENCY: Why did I come to Columbia? I did a fourth-year elective at Farrell and found all of the residents and faculty to be such good teachers. I learned so much during my one-month stay, and I wanted to be a part of a program that fostered a strong academic environment. Add to that one of the friendliest, most supportive groups of residents possible and you have a recipe for a fun-filled three years of learning!

ABOUT RESIDENCY:
I chose this program because I wanted the best of both worlds: an academic medical center and a community hospital.  The program offers this with full access to the main campus of New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Medical Center but with much of our work occuring at The Allen Hospital and Farrell Community Health Center.  I look forward to improving my language skills and learning more about the surrounding communities.
